This 40-day (8-week) program is designed for dentists interested in furthering their knowledge of dentistry in a specific field of interest. The objective of the program is to expose participants to clinical care, cutting-edge research, and best practices.

This will be achieved through participation in post-doctoral didactic courses and observation of the dental care provided in Tufts University School of Dental Medicine specialty clinics. The knowledge learned during the Preceptorship will provide the information and skills needed for the participants to further their education and continue their lifelong journey of learning.

Requirements for Application:

• This program is open to dentists with domestic or international dental degrees.
• Applications are approved on a rolling basis throughout the year.
• The 40 days (8 weeks) can be taken at once or broken up over a 12-month period of time.

Interprofessional Pain and Headache Rounds [Virtual]

The Interprofessional Pain and Headache Rounds is a free year-long lecture series focusing on facial pain and headaches, for a wide variety of professionals.  Lectures are Wednesday mornings from 8am-9am (1 CE hour), presented by the Tufts University School of Dental Medicine Craniofacial Pain Center in collaboration with Massachusetts General Hospital/Harvard Medical School. CE credit is jointly provided by Tufts University School of Dental Medicine and Tufts University School of Medicine Office of Continuing Education.

Case Studies in Orofacial Pain and Headache Series [Virtual]

Join us for an ongoing series of continuing education on orofacial pain, headache, and related pain topics focusing on case studies. It will consist of a half-day program (4 hours) in collaboration with 9 orofacial pain programs. Each case presentation will be presented by a Post-Graduate Resident, overseen by a faculty member, from the respective training programs. Esteemed guest discussants will be invited to participate based on the topics of the presentations.

Controlled Risk Mitigation Education Modules

The following free, self-study sessions focus on Controlled Substance Risk Mitigation in the dental practice. Each session is eligible for .75 CE hours and are part of a research study conducted by Principal Investigator Dr. Ronald Kulich. The aim of this study is to deliver the first controlled substance risk mitigation training modules to Massachusetts practicing dentists, dental hygienists, and oral surgeons. Outcomes will address knowledge, attitudes, as well as self-report of behavior change within clinical practice. This information will help us encourage dental clinicians and dental hygienists to apply comprehensive and consistent risk-mitigation steps into routine practice.

• Applications for registration will be processed in the order received and must be accompanied by full tuition at least two weeks in advance of the course (some exceptions may apply*). If a program develops a waitlist, participants will be required to pay their full tuition to save their seat in the course; the Office of Continuing Education to contact you if this occurs. Maximum and minimum enrollments apply. Early registration is recommended.

• • Course attendees are required to wear protective eyewear and clinical attire during hands-on activities. TUSDM CE will provide each attendee with a blue disposable gown, masks, and protective eyewear. Participants are invited to bring their own lab coats and loupes to the course.
  • In the event that the course includes the use/handling of human tissue, it is TUSDM's understanding that all participants are current with Hepatitis B vaccinations.
  • All course participants must wear long pants (to the ankle).
  • If the course includes drilling or grinding, protective eyewear and face masks are required and must be worn during the duration of that specific activity.
  • Gloves must not be worn when using the model trimmers or dental lathes.
  • Medium to long hair must be pinned or tied back for safety reasons.
  • Dangling jewelry should be removed prior to performing any hands-on activity.
  • No hats, shorts or open-toed shoes are allowed in the Simulation Learning Center or any clinical or research area during the course.
  • We request that cell phones be turned to silent or vibrate during the course, as to not distract others in the learning environment.

• For the health and safety of our participants and school community, all participants are required to adhere to the most current COVID-19 policies listed on the registration page. If these school policies change, all participants will be notified of the change and the registration page will be updated.  If a participant does not adhere to the vaccination/booster requirements or mask policy, they are not eligible for a refund and cannot join the event. • If a CE course obtains enough registrations where a wait list is established, the CE office will notify individuals with unpaid registration balances and ask them to pay their balance to secure their place in the course. If payment is not made to secure their place, the CE office has the right to offer that place to a paying individual on the wait list.

• The Office of Continuing Education reserves the right to close registration when an enrollment limit is reached and to cancel, modify, or alter content or faculty for any course if circumstances indicate the need for such a change. If the school finds it necessary to cancel a course, a full refund will be granted. All attempts to contact registrants will be made as soon as possible in the event of a course cancellation. The school will not be held responsible for any losses due to travel arrangements made by the registrant.

  In the event of inclement weather (such as a snow emergency) or other extenuating circumstances, the Office of Continuing Education may be forced to cancel or postpone a course. If a course has been canceled, we will contact participants by the phone number and/or email address provided. You may call or email our office on the day of the course if you are uncertain of a course's status.

• Refund Policy for Mini-Residency Programs: Full tuition refund or credit will be given for cancellations received at least one month prior to the course start date. • Participants are not allowed to record or photograph any materials without the express permission of the Office of Continuing Education.

• Tufts University School of Dental Medicine, Division of Continuing Education (TUSDM DCE) provides a range of education programs for the dental profession. When Continuing Education Credits are offered, the program is to be strictly educational and by definition, non-promotional. The following guidelines contains the procedures under which TUSDM DCE will engage in educational activities.

  • Continuing education programs are educational and non-promotional.
  • Continuing education programs are created and implemented independent from the promotional influences of the commercial entities.
  • Generic names will be used for any discussion of a specific product, when possible, and there will be a balanced presentation of competing therapies and any limitations on the data.
  • Instructors will adhere to the ADA's Principles of Ethics and Code of Professional Conduct.
  • Instructors will base lectures on sound scientific basis and proven clinical efficacy.
  • Instructors will disclose any potential Conflicts of Interest in the start of continuing education program.
  • Conflict of Interest can include stock ownership, current or past employment, paid consultant services, paid speaking engagements, membership on advisory boards or funded research activities.
  • TUSDM OCE will separate commercial entities product displays from the learning environment and disclose to all the participants any unrestricted grants or sponsorship received for the continuing education programming.

• We reserve the right to photograph or videotape participants and registrants during our continuing education courses. By participating in or registering for this course, each participant/registrant agrees that we may, for no compensation, (I) photograph or videotape such participant/registrant; and (ii) reproduce, distribute, display, use or publish such photographs or video images and likeness, with or without such participant/registrant's name, by any method for any lawful purpose, including for example, such purposes as educational programs, publicity, illustration, recruitment, fundraising, advertising and Web content. Such photographs or video images shall be the exclusive property of the University.

• Parking is available at the Tufts Medical Center parking facility located on Tremont Street. If you get your parking ticket validated with the Continuing Education Office at the check-in table the day of your event, you are eligible for the Patient and Visitor Rate.

• For in-person courses, course check-in begins 30 minutes prior to listed course start time. Unless otherwise noted in the confirmation email, check-in takes place on the 14th floor of 1 Kneeland Street, Boston, MA 02111 near the elevators.

  For virtual/live-streamed courses, the CE program uses Zoom and the virtual space will open at the start time of the program. • Lunch is provided for all full-day courses unless noted on the course description. If you have dietary restrictions, please indicate this on your registration form and we will try to accommodate.
